Addressing the issue of secularization in the modern world, Os Guiness offers these insightful comments:
Less and less of life had been left to God, chance, or human spontaneity, as more and more of life has been classified, calculated, and controlled by the use of reason — in science and technology.
The modern world quite literally ‘manages’ without God. We can do so much so well by ourselves that there is no need for God, even in His church. Thus we modern people can be profoundly secular in the midst of explicitly religious activities.
The modern world has scrambled things so badly that today
we worship our work,
we work at our play, and
we play at our worship.”

- We are simultaneously very mature and very immature. The change is accounted for by change of subject.
- The mark of a believer is what we do when we are not doing well. What we often do is go back to what we know.
- Good people do bad things for good reasons.

As you can tell, the Coram Deo blog has received an overhaul. We have switched over to Wordpress for more control and functionality and have also given it a new look (a big shout out to my good friend Andrew Shepherd for his graphical lendings and inspiration). Bear with us as we work through inevitable bugs and issues. And on that note, please let me know if you experience any troubles. We hope you enjoy the changes!

This Saturday at Benson High School, the Refugee Task Force of Omaha will be hosting World Refugee Day. This will be a time to learn about refugee issues and also to celebrate through musical and dance performances. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Benson High School, 5120 Maple St. Also on hand will be educational panels, a job fair, a fashion show, children’s carnival, and sports such as volleyball and soccer. From one of the spokesmen, “This day is to create awareness, but also to celebrate the rich heritage of these peoples and the diversity and strengths they bring to our communities. It’s a fun day for families with an important purpose behind it.” This is a small step to begin to learn more about what is going on in and around Omaha and what it looks like for the Gospel to bring transformation and renewal to all parts of our city. Click on the flyer below for more details surrounding the event…

- [Regarding his PhD in philosophy] … I’ve worked with the theory of knowing, and concluded that you can’t know. My colleagues agree. They just won’t acquiesce.
- When I preach, I am trying to put a category into people’s minds called Christ. And if the Spirit would bless it, to make it beautiful to them, it will influence their affections. People will choose what they like.
- The private us is less than the public us.

- A saint is not a person without problems. A saint is a person who doesn’t allow his problems to abort his ministry.
- A friend is a person who never believes the best things you say because he knows you’re a liar, but never believes the worst things you say because he thinks better of you than that.
- You can only be direct in peoples’ lives to the point that they know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you love them.
